"Pioneering Education for Sustainability of Caribbean Aquaculture Development & Opportunities"

  • Partners: University of Guyana, University of Stirling University and ISA University
  • Total budget: € 582,897.47 (€ 495,462.86 EU contribution)
  • Duration of the Action: 42 months (October 2, 2013 to April 11, 2017)
  • Location of the Action: Dominican Republic, Guyana, UK

Main Objectives:

  • Create an Undergraduate Degree Program (B.Sc.) in Commercial Aquaculture at the University of Guyana.
  • Create a Master's Degree Program in Aquaculture & Aquaponics at the ISA University.
  • Create a Master's Degree Program in Aquaculture & Aquaponics at the ISA University. Establish the virtual "Institute of Aquaculture & Aquaponics" (INAQUAP), at the ISA University, servicing the Caribbean for the dissemination of knowledge and expertise between stakeholders of Aquaculture in the Caribbean.

Main Activities funded by the PESCADO Project:

  • Capacity building and development of commercially focused University Degree Programs.
  • Teacher Training Programs for University Faculty and Producers .
  • Establishment of the INAQUAP Institute.
  • Admission of students to the academic programs developed by the project.
  • Promoting Aquaculture Entrepreneurship to sustain the sector commercially.
  • Develop the Research Infrastructure and capability at the Partner Institutions.
